Worthenia bed Riverside, Mo I-635 & Hwy-9

Kansas city contains some of the best fossil collecting areas in the Midwest. Most of the fossils in the KC area is mostly of the Pennsylvanian period 295, Million years. There is a rock layer in the Riverside,Mo area which contains the highest concentration of fossil Mullusks any where in the City. It is in the Chanute shale. There is a zone in the Chanute known as the WORTHINIA BED.
